The Night One French Actress Re-ignited The French #MeToo Movement

On February 28, 2020, the César ceremony, the French Oscars, takes place in Paris' Salle Pleyel. But this year's ceremony is not like any other. Roman Polanski, a Franco-Polish director convicted of rape, including that of a 13-year-old girl, is nominated 12 times.

Just after midnight, he is announced as the winner of the Cesar for Best Director. Immediately afterwards, the famous French actress Adèle Haenel left the stage shouting "shame". French feminists have not forgotten this act, as it was a key moment for the #MeToo movement in France, bringing the issue of sexual assault and gender-based violence to the forefront, making it a true emblem of feminist struggle.

This episode was written, directed, and produced by Grace Spiegel, Naomi Stockley, Fabrizio La Rocca, and Emile Roger under the supervision of Lorraine Besse.

To Catch a Predator: Lack of Laws Puts Women at Risk of Deepfake Attacks

Amy Smith, an American currently studying in Paris, was preparing for a midterm in her apartment when a stranger sent her an Instagram message with an ominous threat: “Reply, or these will be sent everywhere.” Hesitating a moment, she clicked on the notification and scrolled past his initial text to see AI-generated images of herself, nude.
Smith, who asked that her name be changed, wasn’t worried at first. The images were so poorly altered that anyone could tell they were fake. She blocked the...

Before and After: How Paris Schools are Staying Cool

How is Paris adapting to extreme heat? As the city of light continues to see record-breaking summer temperatures, schoolyards have been transformed from concrete jungles to urban oases. The results are chilling:

Paris is prepping for doomsday level heat. By the end of the century, Météo-France projects that the City of Light will experience an average of 10 to 25 days of extreme heat per year, compared to one day per year today.

In an effort to cool the deadly effects of temperatures that coul

Toxic ‘Forever Chemicals’ Found in Period Products

During the national tampon shortage earlier this summer, people who menstruate worried about where to find period products. As tampons come back to shelves, that worry has subsided; but few consumers are worried about what is in these products. They should be.

People who menstruate bleed for approximately 1,800 days over the course of their lives. That means for the equivalent of five years, they are using chemically coated pads, tampons, and period underwear. And while the shortage has brought

Hell’s Kitchen: Gas Stoves Leak Dangerous Chemicals

Americans love cooking with gas. At least that is what the gas industry would have them believe. But that romance is literally toxic.

According to a slew of new studies, gas stoves frequently leak and release dangerous chemicals into the air that can cause cancer, excessive bleeding, and a highly increased chance for infections. In some cases, the leaks also cause explosions and house fires.

“It is well established that natural gas is a major source of methane that’s driving climate change,” s

EPA Tackles Dangerous ‘Forever Chemicals’ in Drinking Water

For decades, “forever chemicals” have contaminated the drinking water of tens of millions of Americans, causing cancer, birth defects, and a myriad of other illnesses.

Now, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is slashing the exposure limits of these invisible killers.

“No one should have to worry about the safety of their drinking water,” said Melanie Benesh, legislative attorney of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), in a statement welcoming the change. “These proposed advisory level

On-set shooting proves a large challenge for assigning blame

On Oct. 21, while rehearsing a scene for the movie “Rust,” actor Alec Baldwin shot a gun handed to him on set, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding film director Joel Souza.

With new information about this ongoing investigation arising each day preceding the incident, the focus has turned to the assistant director (AD) Dave Halls.

While it is easy to target Halls, the shooting is a signal of poor safety measures throughout the whole crew.

Afghanistan refugees to arrive in Spokane in coming months

Around 200-300 refugees from Afghanistan who fled the country during the mass evacuation in late August are likely to arrive in Spokane in the coming months.
